How to play
Each round has four mystery footballers, one from each level: Easy (global superstars), Medium, Hard and Baller IQ (players who had solid top-flight careers but only true fans remember).
There are two ways to play. The Daily Quiz is four fresh players, the same for everybody, once a day. The Infinite Quiz has no limit and draws from the full database. It includes everyone by default, and you can narrow it to the clubs and countries you want.
Every player comes with six clues, starting with the vaguest. Guess on the first clue for the full 1,000 points. Each time you skip or guess wrong, the next clue appears and the player is worth 20% less:
1,000 → 800 → 640 → 512 → 410 → 328
The best possible score is 4,000. Spelling doesn't have to be perfect, and surnames are fine: “Ibrahimovic”, “Zlatan” and “ibrahimović” all count.
FAQ
Where do the clues come from?
Hand-written clues come from public records of players' careers, such as FBref, Transfermarkt and official club and federation sites. The rest are built automatically from Wikidata career data, with players ranked by how often they're looked up on Wikipedia. Spotted a mistake? Email us and we'll fix it.
What happens to the daily players afterwards?
The day after their Daily Quiz, those four join the Infinite Quiz pool, so the database grows every day.
Do I get the same players every time?
No. Players are drawn at random, and you won't see a player again until you've been through everyone at that level. The pool covers more than 1,600 players: the best-known names ever to play in Europe's top five leagues, from all-time greats to cult heroes, plus every past Daily Quiz.
